How To Choose A Keyword Strategy?

Keyword Strategy: Choosing a keyword strategy for your SEO campaign can be the difference between being at the top of the list or just falling behind like the rest of the crowd.  So how do you choose effective words that can help promote your SEO campaign?

Applicability

These words should have something to do with your site and content so that you are targeting the right audience.  These words can also relate to your industry as a whole.  Often times keywords are very broad and are strategically chosen to be so.  You may find that specialized words and phrases will help you increase traffic, if you use the right keyword strategy.

Check the competition

This is always a good idea especially if your competitors are doing very well with their internet marketing campaign.  Make sure that you track the popularity of some of their specific keywords.  This will give you a better idea of what kind of keywords you are looking for.

Use a tool

Google has a keywords tool that helps you choose a keyword that can bring you better results but there are also other keyword tools that work differently.  Most of these tools require you to put a phrase in and then they spit out a key word.  The keywords that come up from the tool can be used but it may be more effective to check the top ranking sites in your particular industry to see what they are using for their sites.

Personalize

This is very important.  Just like a Where is Waldo book, you need to find something that makes you stand out.  If your customer base can use an extra word to find you up at the top then it is good to use that word.  Be careful not to be too original as this can make it too hard for people to find your site and it won’t help much with your SEO campaign.
